On Sunday, February 13, 2011, Immanuel Baptist Church began hosting an exciting event for the entire community. Meeting once a month, this event has been titled The Bridge and is designed to be a place where young people, families, and individuals of all ages can come hang out and ask real questions about a real God in the context of real relationships.
The worship time is filled with music, videos, and images that reflect the heart of the message in an engaging manner. "The structure of this event is a little different from a traditional church service," said Pastor Kent. "We want to create an environment that is open, welcoming, and allows people to experience God in a place that makes them feel comfortable."
Micheal Burgess, a member of The Bridge planning team adds, "This service offers a more contemporary approach...offering more relevant music to today's age range, a bit of a 'coffee shop,' and a relaxed atmosphere, higher energy, and emphasizing the importance of developing relationships within our church body."
Kristen Anderson, Visual Arts Director for the program, points out that the primary purpose of The Bridge is to reach out to those who do not know Christ. "There are a great number of lost people in Grays Harbor, and we are hoping to reach some of them with this service," she said. "There are not many places for young adults to get to know each other, so why not do it in a church service and learn about God too?"
The services will feature a live band and free childcare. Free food is provided before and after the event as people gather to hang out. Children have their own 'Kids' Zone' filled with fun activities.
"We believe that church is important and extremely beneficial for our spiritual growth," Geoff Cotton pointed out, Music Director for The Bridge. "We wanted to present church in a way that would be hospitable and welcoming for people who many not know God and also those who know Him but have become jaded toward the church. We want to reach out to non-believers, new believers, and jaded believers and hopefully help 'em see Jesus."
During the services, Pastor Kent facilitiates discussions on some of life's most pressing questions including things like "Who Am I?," Do I Really Matter?," and "How Do You Find Meaning in Life?" Guests also have the opportunity to ask or text questions during the presentations as well as listen to other people share their spiritual journey and personal experiences with God.
"In a nutshell, The Bridge is about helping people connect to a real God while connecting to real people," said Brittany Niemann, Marketing Director for the program.
"I'm excited to see the impact on the community and the Kingdom of Christ," Kristen Anderson exclaimed. "We all know many friends, co-workers, and acquaintances that can really benefit from a service like this."
Guests are encouraged to come connect with others at 5:30 p.m. The service begins at 6 p.m. Services are scheduled for the first Sunday of each month.
Attenders of The Bridge are encouraged to text questions to Pastor Kent. Due to the volume of messages and research required, a response during the service is not possible. Questions asked of Pastor Kent and his responses will be posted here following each session of The Bridge.
